Projects:
2011 Sewer Lining and Manhole Rehabilitation
The major portion of the project is to line approximately 16,204 feet of sanitary sewers between Elm Street and Noble Street and Indianapolis Avenue to State Road 39.
The second part of this project is the lining of 40 manholes.
Lining the sanitary sewers is simply rehabilitation of the existing line to fix the cracks and defects in the old clay pipe. The lining material is made of a single piece of cured in place poly pipe that goes from manhole to manhole. Once the lining is completed the pipes are a durable, smooth surface which allows the sewer to flow freely and stops infiltration. This saves the Utilities money as we will not have to treat the rainwater that would previously filter through the old clay pipes. The new poly pipe has no joints or offsets where tree roots and other debris can get caught and clog the system. Once an old line is rehabilitated using the cured in place poly pipe it requires less maintenance
The company installing the lining begins by cleaning the line then they camera and measure the line and laterals so they can be cut back in once the new line is in place. Once the line is prepared the line is blocked off and the flows are pumped around the area.
This work is done within the existing sanitary sewer framework and does not disturb roads or yards.
Lining the manholes consists of pulling a resin coated poly fiberglass from one manhole to another manhole. The material is filled with water which is heated to approximately 175 degrees Fahrenheit. This condition is maintained for two hours by circulating the water through a hot water heater. After the material is set the heat is turned off and the line is allowed to slowly cool to prevent cracking. Once the pipe is cured the laterals are cut back in to the homes.
Work also includes the provision of a pre-construction and post-construction video of the project at the onset and completion of the project, cleaning and handling of the disposal of material from the sanitary sewer line prior to lining, sewer bypass or bypass pumping for the sanitary flow during the project, reinstating all active or service laterals, and traffic control during the project.
Based on a review of the bids received on May 18, 2011, the apparent low responsive and responsible bidder was Insituform Technologies USA, Inc. whose base bid amount is $389,763.40.
Work is set to begin on August 1, 2011, and should be completed by December 22, 2011.
